Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have proven to be a destructive force in the art world, but in the latest special episode of the American animated series South Park, investing in such assets leads to real death and destruction.

One scene from the special comedy series Post Covid: The Return of Covid depicts a group of firefighters transporting victims of a massacre that left numerous corpses scattered around a demolished building.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. Just complete murder and carnage, ”said the firefighter. Although at first everything seemed calm, a man in a suit arrived and talked about investment opportunities. “The next thing you know, these people here started chanting ‘Hodl, Hodl’ and their NFT started waving their hand,” the firefighter explains to the two stunned viewers the reasons for the tragedy.

“And then these guys started saying that those guys right-clicked them and called for a rejection and a reset,” he continues.

“What made these guys beat up everyone who said it was just FOMO and died screaming that it was ridiculous.”

Using jargon such as fear of missing out (FOMO) and “ flipping, ” which is the term used to describe a situation in which Ethereum (ETH), the second coin in terms of total market capitalization, will take over the leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin ( BTC), the show’s creators demonstrate more than an average understanding of crypto jargon.

“Fortunately, I’m doing well. I got this little miniature donkey with an illuminated sombrero, ”the firefighter concludes, proudly showing what appears to be an NFT on his phone screen before his colleague comes up with another“ great investment opportunity ”- a little turtle with wings.

The animated series has long focused on global finance and poked fun at some aspects of it, and the latest episode provides another example of the presence of cryptocurrencies on the show. The recently released animated film South Park: Post Covid represents a future in which bitcoins (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies are the dominant payment method.
